Is Your Marriage Harmful...or Just Hard?
There was a season in my marriage when some of the people around me were convinced that what I was fighting for was harmful.
They saw the broken trust.
The distance.
The abandonment.
The destructive coping mechanisms.
The mess.
And from the outside, I understand why they were concerned.
These were people who genuinely loved me who thought the best thing for me to do was stop fighting for my marriage and move on.
But years later, after God had done a deep work in both of us and our marriage had been restored, some of those same people came back to me and apologized.
They could see the fruit now.
They could see that Tim and I weren’t the same people we had once been. They saw the blessing it was for our kids to have mom and dad together.
What they had interpreted as a marriage that needed to end was actually a very hard marriage that needed someone to stand in the gap for healing.
And I am incredibly grateful that I didn’t allow other people’s fear to make my decision for me. I studied the Bible for myself, repented and got right with the Lord, and let the Holy Spirit guide me with the help of wise counsel. The longer I stayed in the fight, the stronger I was in the Lord.
But here is where this gets complicated.
